Sara, Oct 2017: “Our stay in the Birdhouse for the weekend was the icing on the cake for our first Whitehorse experience. Hendrik was very communicative and helpful leading up to our visit and was flexible with our check-in, even though our arrival time was up in the air. Traveling with 2 dogs can always be a bit tricky and we almost stayed in a hotel before we found the Birdhouse. This rustic cabin beats a hotel any day in our book, we were so happy with our decision. The Birdhouse was pristine and cozy and everything we were hoping for. The woodstove provided the perfect ambiance for settling in with a cup of tea for the evening. I was skeptical about the outhouse, but even that was clean and had charming character. We are already looking ahead at when we can revisit Whitehorse and the Birdhouse in the spring. The 45ish minute drive from the cabin to downtown Whitehorse was very enjoyable! The scenery was mesmerizing. And then there was the view from the property… Absolutely incredible!!! Words and pictures could not do it justice. Thank you Hendrik and Nicole!”

Pavla, October 2017: “The Bird House is perfectly situated at the most beautiful place which we have seen in Yukon. Place was clean and well-equipped. Hendrik and his family are very kind hosts, helpful and they always have recommendations for a good trip. We absolutely enjoyed our stay. Thanks a lot.”

Alex, September 2017: “We had a great time staying at this little causy cabin for one night. The cabin is funky, but very well built, comfortable and warm! Very relaxing and quiet… We also enjoyed the trails nearby so we could do a little walk in the woods. Special mention for the outhouse, which has to be the brightest, cleanest and most odor-free we have ever seen!”

Austin, September 2017: “Hendrik’s cabin is awesome and secluded. Perfect for a nice getaway or the traveler looking for a place to stop for the evening!”

Greg, August 2017: “The birdhouse is exactly as described and was very nicely cleaned and neat upon arrival. A quick tour from the host and the place was ours with much appreciated privacy. We were warned to go light on the woodstove and hoo-boy was that a good warning. There will be no problem keeping the birdhouse toasty in even the dead of winter. Thanks for the stay!

Jon, August 2017: “Excellent hosts. Quiet and wonderful cabin. Way, way, way better than staying anywhere in Whitehorse (and I’ve tried that).”

Bryce, August 2017: “Cozy space near a beautiful lake! My girlfriend and I were able to get a lot of rest and have a quiet comfortable place to relax. Well insulated and holds heat very well from the wood stove. If you aren’t comfortable without electricity, running water or an indoor bathroom then this is not the place for you! But it is a good spot to unplug for a little while.”

Wendy: “This is a lovely spot for a quiet getaway. Great attention to detail in the cabin – cute and cozy. Thanks! We will be back and have already shared our experiences with our friends so hopefully you’ll get some more business that way as well :)”

Bryan: “My wife and I had a fantastic stay in this cozy cabin. On arrival we were greeted by Nicole who gave us a warm welcome and quick rundown of things we needed to know. The location is very scenic. The fire kept us nice and warm. The only thing was that it got a little too hot one night, but we were warned that it could get pretty warm. We really appreciated the knock on the door to let us know that the northern lights are out. What a sight! We would definitely stay again. Thank you!”

Justin: “My wife and I stayed here on our honeymoon because we wanted a place that was in between camping and a hotel, and this was ideal. Rustic, but still cozy and warm. The view was incredible, the cabin was clean, and the hosts were accommodating. While this is far from roughing it, be sure you are prepared for a small, practical space that will require some patience at times. If small cabins are your thing, I highly recommend this! Some decent easy trails nearby for hiking, and of course world class Yukon hiking all within short drives. Whitehorse is about almost an hour away, but it is an easy, scenic drive. We had a wonderful time! In praise of the hosts: My wife and I were held up with bizarre rental car issues, and Nicole graciously waited up for arrival which was about 1am! I couldn’t believe what great hospitality that was. She made sure we knew where everything thing (outhouse, extra clean water, heater, etc) when we arrived. They were gone on a outdoors trip the following day so that was our only interaction, but we are extremely appreciative of their hospitality.”

Frances: “We absolutely loved the birdhouse! It was so cozy and simple. The little cabin is set up with everything needed for cooking. The trails around are really nice, the lake has beautiful views, and the community is super welcoming. Hendrik and Nicole were really nice and helpful. Although its located really close to their cabin, I still felt that I had privacy. It was a wonderful place and I would love to go back. ”

Michael: “For a 4-day trip to the Yukon, my wife and I stayed 2 nights at the Birdhouse near Marsh Lake and it was the perfect place to spend time just in the wilderness. It has everything that you would need to stay for a short trip: propane stove with oven, gas lamps, kitchen utensils including bowls and plates, a wonderful wood burning stove (which keeps you very warm even when it is -20 Celsius outside), a loft with a very comfortable bed all in a wonderfully decorated, custom built wood cabin. Its also a good launching out point to places like Tagish and Carcross, or if you really need to get supplies, its still a decent drive back to Whitehorse. We wanted to experience the Yukon as it once was and this was a great way of doing it. Thank you Hendrik and Nicole for allowing us to stay at your wonderful Birdhouse.” What Michael loved about your listing: We loved the cabin itself and how inviting Hendrik and Nicole were to us. We loved the craftsmanship of the cabin and the fact that Hendrik built it himself made the stay even more special.

What Michael thought you could improve about the experience: Keep building log cabins. 🙂       February 2016

Iris: “I didn’t get to meet Hendrik, but Nicole was very welcoming when I arrived. I was driving on my way from Colorado up to Cordova, AK, mostly camping, and the Birdhouse was a lovely place to stay along the way. It’s really cute – the perfect size for me and my dog, or a couple. I only got to stay overnight (I wish it was longer), but I took plenty of time sitting at the little table on the porch reading and drinking coffee and tea (from the little stash in the cupboard!) and taking meandering walks on the nearby trail next to the beautiful lake. There is a lot of natural light and it feels very inviting. And the sleeping loft is adorable (there’s really no other word for it). I’m not sure when I would have an opportunity to come back, but I would certainly love to in the future!” What Iris thought you could improve about the experience: I think it will be really great when you add the outdoor shower you were talking about. June 2015 _____________________________________________ Zephyr: “The Bird House was amazing, and the perfect place to stop and rest along my journey to Alaska. Hendrik made the stay easy, and his craftsmanship and attention to detail in the Bird House are impressive. Will stay here again if I’m ever nearby” ______________________________________________________ Dough: “We had such a good time in the “Birdhouse”; and it was just what we were looking for at the conclusion of our Yukon / Alaska trip. The  Birdhouse is really fun, well laid out and very nice attention to detail. Provides a great peek into life off-the-grid and pretty easy to take. Hendrik and Nicole were very welcoming and helpful, but leave you alone unless you want assistance. We would definitely look to stay on the property in the future, perhaps we might try the Lakeview cabin, but unlikely, we loved the Birdhouse! ”

October 2015 _____________________________________________________ The Airbnb Team: “Hi Hendrik, Your guests are loving what you’re doing! You’ve gotten five 5-star reviews in a row. It takes a lot of work to make such a great impression on travellers, and you’re doing it consistently. Thanks for being a conscientious and welcoming host. Keep up the fantastic work!” ______________________________________________________ Traolach: “What a beautiful cabin and location. Hendrik was very quick in responding and was keen to answer all of our questions. The cabin is nestled in amongst the trees and is beautifully designed and built. It’s easy to park your car off the road and walk the twenty metres to the cabin. Everything you need is in the cabin, including a cooker to prepare your food. The wood stove is excellent, we stayed there on a cold night and we were toasty warm the whole night. The bed is very comfortable. You have all of the privacy you want and at the same time Hendrik is always happy to be available if you have any questions or need anything. The outhouse is immaculately clean. The location itself is beautiful and you are a short walk from Marsh Lake. It’s not a long drive from Whitehorse to this cabin and it is well worth it. Don’t bother with a hotel, stay here and get a real Yukon experience!”
What Traolach loved about your listing:
Hi guys, thank you for having us. The cabin is beautiful! Thank you also for giving us all the privacy we wanted whilst being open and welcoming at the same time. We had a really lovely time, than you.
What Traolach thought you could improve about the experience: The only tiny comments we have to make is that a small axe would be useful for kindling and a recycling bin would be nice.

Heather: “The cabin was perfect: expertly hand-made, beautifully decorated, well-designed. Thank you for having me for my short stay.” ______________________________________________________ Christopher:  “Henrik was able to accommodate us at the last minute in his clean and well-built cabin. The cabin is very well-done and has everything you need. It is dry (no indoor plumbing) but was clean and cozy and suited us well. We had a great time and would recommend it to anyone!” _______________________________________________________ Rox-Ann: “An absolute gem. Great construction, perfectly outfitted on a really lovely plot of land. Extremely nice hosts, responsive, welcoming, and available. I would come back here anytime – in fact, I hope to this winter! Highly recommended.” _______________________________________________________ Curtis: “Hosts were very communicative leading up to the arrival and arrival itself was easy. Helpful and friendly folks and unintrusive during our stay as well. The “room” itself was super cozy and had everything we needed. Great for a couple or couple with a small child (like us) or a pet. Everything they described is what we received, no surprises and even helped us out when we needed a high chair (borrowed one from their friend). Great place to base yourself and explore this little corner of the Yukon (a vehicle is pretty much essential FYI). Our only problem was no way to store food so some things did spoil, you have to plan your meals accordingly and eat everything the day you make it. Be sure to stock up on foodstuffs for the time you will stay there. Not sure how the hosts could rectify this at all as there is no electricity at the joint, so just plan well. It’s not their problem. 🙂 ________________________________________________________ Marieke: “The birdhouse was great! It as very unique and cozy, and after a month of camping it was great to have an oven to cook with. Hendrick also went out of his way to let us use the BBQ, such we really appreciated. Next time I think I’d like to check out the tiny cabin if we stayed!” ________________________________________________________ Ally: “Hendrix was absolutely wonderful! His place was great and a wonderful escape into the Yukon wilderness!!” ________________________________________________________ Amy: “This place is great. The whole property is really cool, with beautiful woods, lots of trails, and views of the lake. The cabin itself is perfect. Just rustic enough, and very cozy. ” ________________________________________________________ Kat: “Hendrik wasn’t able to greet us when we arrived, but he sent his very friendly neighbours to fill us in. The cabin was super clean, funky, no bugs inside – a hard thing to do in the woods! – and there were even some spices and tea/coffee available. Even the outhouse was clean and tastefully decorated. We appreciated such a peaceful place to stay. For those looking for an isolated space, this is not 100% private, as it’s close to their house with no curtains. However, while we were there Hendrik and his family were away, so we found the place very private. We enjoyed hiking around the area and appreciated the bear bell and bear spray that were provided, just in case! We checked out the community centre for dinner on Friday night, too. It’s a very friendly community! Overall we loved experiencing tiny house living for a couple of days in such a beautiful area. It’s not too far from the city, beaches, and hiking spots. We’d come back for sure and recommend it to anyone needing a break from city life.” “The views, the peace and quiet, clean well water readily available, and more. Your space is lovely – we loved all the little finishings, from the colours to the door knobs. We can see you put a lot of heart into your craft. Thanks for sharing it with airbnb-ers.” ______________________________________________________ Brian: “We were warmly received and really enjoyed our stay. The cabin is well built and tastefully decorated. It immediately felt like home.” ______________________________________________________ Susan: “Very cozy cabin for a relaxing, rejuvenating stay. Wonderful hosts and amenities. Thanks for the stay!” ______________________________________________________

__________________________________________________ Margaret, July 2018: “Hendrik’s cabin is a beautiful wooden cabin. The atmosphere is peaceful and relaxing. Hendrik was very easy to communicate with and gave us a walking tour once we arrived. We were impressed with the warm outdoor shower and clean outhouse! As well the propane stove was very nice! Just a small thing to keep in mind: the view is stunning and lake front but the cabin has no direct access to the lake. Other than that, this is a perfect secluded cabin for those wanting a getaway from city life!” __________________________________________________ Erin, July 2018: “Thank you for an amazing stay! The cabin is beautiful with an amazing view. It is a perfect place to relax and reconnect. We highly recommend!!” ___________________________________________________ Sarah, July 2018: “This rustic cabin is the perfect place to get away from it all and reconnect with family. Well located for driving day trips or to just relax and enjoy the view. A great little kitchen and BBQ allowed us to prepare our own meals easily. And don’t miss the outdoor shower! Great hosts as well, helpful and welcoming.” ____________________________________________________ Lobber, July 2018: “A lovely cabin in a quiet spot with a great view. We loved our stay there. The place will be superb, when the last bits (like running water) in cabin is done. I’m surely a fan of this place.” _____________________________________________________ Camille, March 2018: “This cabin is just glorious. The view is spectacular and the cabin so cosy. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and already look forward to the return. We were a party of five (three adults and two children) and the cabin had more than enough room for us. We brought our kids thermarests and sleeping bags and they slept by the main bed upstairs on the floor, though we could have had them on the fold out couch bed downstairs. I think when they are a little older they will love to sleep in the little nook that is only accessible by ladder. Hendrik had lit the fire so the cabin was toasty warm when we arrived. He was a responsive host and very prompt on all his communication. All in all, a lovely stay.” _____________________________________________________ Gabriel, March 2018: “We were greeted by Nicole who is always welcoming and smiling. The cabin was warm, clean, and cozy. Having electricity and a mini fridge made our lives much easier with a toddler in tow. Looking forward to going back to marsh lake cabins a third time!” ______________________________________________________ Ariel, February 2018: “A gorgeous cabin! The view over the lake was amazing and the light snow fall was beautiful.” ______________________________________________________ Michelle, January 2018: “Hendrik’s cabin was absolutely perfect. We arrived to a warm and cozy cabin with the fireplace lit. The cabin is actually better than the pictures. There were 4 of us and we had plenty of room. It’s about 40 minutes away from whitehorse, which was perfect for our adventures away from the city. If you’re coming here to see the northern lights, this cabin is the place to go! The cabin has large windows near the dining table, where you can peek out towards the sky against a stunning background of the mountains and the beautiful Marsh lake. We borrowed snowshoes from Hendrik for an awesome hike around Marsh lake and went dogsledding on another day. The cabin is supplied with a fully functioning kitchen with water, a fridge, and a stove. We cooked every meal and had a great time. Hendrik was accommodating and gave us tons of tips on where to go around Marsh lake, supplied us with everything we needed, and responded right away to all our questions. We’re already planning our trip back to Hendrik’s cabin on Marsh lake.” ______________________________________________________ Christian, December 2017: “This place was absolutely amazing. Perfect for everything that we needed, just the friends and family on no outside communications. And the view was outstanding! We saw the northern lights on our last Night and it completed our trip. Hendrik was just the nicest person you will ever come across, very helpful with everything!!” ______________________________________________________ Anna, November 2017: “Hendrik is very helpful and easy to get in touch with. The cabin is so beautiful and really gives you a nice Yukon experience. We were even lucky enough to see the northern lights from the cabin one night!” ______________________________________________________ Jared, September 2017: “We absolutely adored this charming rustic cabin beside Marsh Lake! The host was easily accommodating and communicative about the stay as well.”
